the shape of the problem

Early-stage startup screening is a volume problem wearing an interview’s clothes. The questions are largely the same every time; what differs is the answers. That makes it a good fit for automation — provided the per-interview cost is low enough that running one more is never a decision.

what i built

  • A serverless voice platform on Google Cloud Run that conducts automated, 10-question startup interviews over the phone, auto-scaling with demand.
  • Twilio Voice APIs plus Google Cloud AI (speech-to-text, Vertex AI NLP) for real-time sentiment scoring and automated rubric evaluation — bringing operational compute cost down to $0.10 per assessment.
  • A Cloud Build CI/CD pipeline for automated container deployment, giving zero-downtime updates.

why serverless is the right shape

Interview traffic is spiky and mostly absent. Cloud Run’s scale-to-zero means the platform costs nothing between calls and absorbs a burst without being pre-provisioned for one — which is also what keeps the per-assessment figure where it is.

outcome

An end-to-end automated assessment: phone call in, scored rubric out, at ten cents of compute.
